Congratulations to Keir Starmer and Angela Rayner

Hertford & Stortford Constituency Labour Party would like to offer our warmest congratulations to Keir Starmer, following his election as Leader of the Labour Party.
Keir won the leadership amidst strong competition from Rebecca Long-Bailey and Lisa Nandy.
Our CLP backed Keir for the leadership by an overwhelming majority at our nomination meeting in February.
We would also like to congratulate Angela Rayner following her success in the Deputy Leadership Election.
Amongst a wider field of candidates, Angela won the contest against competition from Dr Rosena Allin-Khan, Richard Burgon, Ian Murray and Dawn Butler.
These results come in the midst of challenging times. Labour’s special conference was cancelled as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, with results delivered via a special webpage.
In the face of clear mistakes and miscalculations from those in charge, the country needs a strong, united Labour Party to hold the Tories in government to account now more than ever.
We must remain an anti-austerity party, committed to fighting for a better society and a more hopeful future for the many, not just the privileged few.
