Carolyn is Leader of the Labour Group on East Herts District Council. She is one of two Labour Councillors on the District Council and has represented Sele Ward in Hertford since her election in May 2019.

Carolyn is a former primary school teacher and was brought up in rural Derbyshire. Her family were always interested in politics, often living in overcrowded or very poor housing.

"There was always a lack of money in our household, although we were surrounded by many well-heeled people. The resulting tensions made me understand social injustice in a very sharp way."

Carolyn is passionate about ensuring that children do not grow up in poor housing and poverty, and believes that every child should be in a position to benefit from a good education.
